This morning was our final baby sign class. We learned some more signs (Tree; Wind; Sun; etc) however, what I learned most is where Oliver and I got our colds from last week. Parents were talking about "the cold" and there were only 4 kids at this class even the teacher still had a persistant cough. At one point after she coughed into her hand and shortly thereafter came at Oliver with a Buzz Lightyear toy phone, I thought I was going to have a coronary trying to avoid her. She approached too quickly for me. Papi on one side of me; Supernanny on the other; my back against a wall and Oliver on my lap; there was nowhere for me to go. The teacher leaned in real close with that noisy little toy in her cough-infected hand. The toy exclaims “To Infinity And Beyond!” and with her other cough-infected hand, she tugged at Oliver’s ear (the sign for noise). "Do you hear the noise?" she says to Oliver as I hit Supernanny in the arm saying “anti-bacterial lotion stat!”
I am not sure that I would recommend the baby sign class at LA LA LING. The Teacher is sweet, but the lesson is fairly self explanitory. I added a "Born 2 Sign" link (SEE “helpful links” below right). That said: one mom seemed to appreciate the class and was sad to see it end. If you live in the Silverlake neighborhood, it's probably worth it, but if not, you can really learn all the signs you want to learn on this website, and get your play dates somewhere else. Preferably a bigger place with better ventilation. I think our next outing will be Gymboree and/or Storyopolis for their story time hours.
We went to lunch at Fred 62 and then said good-bye to Silverlake for a while. Papi and I ran some errands during the daytime. We managed to buy some more goodies for Oliver’s Nursery and Playroom. At some point I will post some pics of the new playroom now that it is just about complete.
We had an early dinner at City Wok Chinese Restaurant (Goto the link and print the 15% off coupons before visiting a City Wok). The Dads had some Chinese Chicken Salad and some CIty Wok Chicken, while Oliver just stared down the other people outside on the patio. It was a hot night, perfect for sitting outside dropping your toys from the table and watching your Dads' constantly bend over to pick them up. After dinner, Oliver called it a night at 8pm. Right on schedule!

Thanks for the Link to Born 2 Sign! It is cute and easy to use. I added it to my "favorites" and I plan to check in often and begin to use some of the signs with the kids in my Sunday School class. They love to sign! Maybe one day Oliver and I will have a sign chat :)
Isn't it awful how some grownups (and professionals working with children to boot! Shame on that teacher!) are so oblivious to common health procedures? Yuk! I'm happy Oliver survived his first cold and there will be many more in his future but each time he will be a little older and a little stronger. It is still hard to see your baby suffer though. Wait until he goes to school! :)
LOL - I totally agree with Joe and Aunt Carol (Hi :)... the teacher was totally oblivious to why Oli wasn't down playing with the toys and the rest of the kids on the carpet. Joe did mention to the class that Oli was just getting over his cold; but that didn't stop the teacher... nnnooo. It was so sad to see Joe trying to shield Oli away from the still sick teacher (no where to run and no where to hide); I shoulda brought one of those disinfectant wipe tubs with us to sterilize EVERYONE and EVERYTHING in that room. Oh, by the way... I showed my mom (she's a teacher's aide for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students) a lot of the signs that we've learned, she laughed and said, "what the heck is she teaching you guys? that's not sign language, that's gibberish". My mom finished the sign notebook, and made me go over all the signs with her; so hopefully, I'll remember how it all goes when I bring the book with me tomorrow. Thanks again for brunch - it was quite yummy :). I'm definitely looking forward to visiting Storyopolis and the Zoo too.
