Yo-Baby? More like NO BABY!
Papi bought Oli some YO BABY yogurt because he liked it so much when we were at San Diego and he tried some of Taylor’s. We could not figure out why a kid is not supposed to have milk before year 1, but he is allowed yogurt at 6 months. I imagine it has something to do with whole milk, and people tending to substitute it for formula. Not to mention kids can develop dairy allergies if it's introduced too early. If anyone else knows the answer to this Dairy dilemna, please feel free to weigh in. Either way, Oli digs the Yo Baby so we were excited to give it to him. And the packaging is so cute, extra small and it has "baby" in the title. What could be bad, right?
It wasn’t until we were feeding him tonight that I really looked at the ingredients: There is a TON of sugar in that stuff (18 Grams). No wonder he loves it. It’s actually the second ingredient listed. On top of that it has a boat load of Sodium. In an effort to avoid making him a Diabetic, we immediately cut him off. Seriously, why is this product marketed to kids?
I hear you Joe. You really have to be careful and read all labels. When Nick was little and had allergies I learned quickly that all is not as it seems. Nick was allergic to grape among other things. They gave him a cran-apple drink in the hospital and he broke out in hives almost immediately. One would think the drink was cranberry and apple but think again. His pediatrician warned me that there is grape in lemonade!! He was also allergic to soy and I just love those and/or ingredients. It may or may not contain soy :( Be grateful Oliver is healthy and you don't have to be an allergy detective.
