Runny nose, sneezing, labored breathing, drooling, coughing up phlegm, dried boogers, and thick green snot. Basically one big petri dish of a baby!
Mentholated/humidified nursery, anti-bacterialized toys and hands, fluids, tons of hand-washing, face wiping, naps, petrolium jelly around his nostrils and occasional walks in the fresh air. We put a pillow at one end of his crib to give him an elevated sleeping position so that the juice drains and allows him to breath a bit better. I can't forget to mention the saline nose spray followed with a nose suction ball and Oliver crying from the assault on his nostrils. (He really hates it when we mess with his nose, but it allows him to breath long enough to fall asleep or take a bottle much easier.)
None of this has stopped him from eating, and playing on his blanket with his toys. He just occasionally sneezes a boatload of snot out and he sits quietly on your lap while you read to him. He's not trying as hard to stand and walk around like he normally does--probably because of all the energy it takes just to breath. Sometimes Oliver gives you this look like "what's happening to me Dad?" and "make it stop". However, through it all, he somehow manages to continue to smile, squeek, and squawk.
Anyone else care to comment on what to do for a kid with a cold?

Sounds like he has a really nasty cold :( The good news is the "stuff" is coming out, he is not running fever, and he still has an appetite. The "green" bothers me though. The darker the color the more concerned you should be. Don't want any of this to turn into infection.
You are doing all the right things. Lots of liquids are important and of course lots of love :) You do that very well! Elevating the bed, fresh air, hand washing, etc. - all good stuff.
I would caution the use of the nose bulb. It can be a useful tool but have you ever done it to yourself? It can be painful also :( Are you using any medication to dry up the mucus? You might want to check in with your Pediatrician for a recomendation. Don't know what the current thinking is on over the counter drugs for little ones. I'd also ask about the use of the humidifier. Don't know which one you are using. They can harbor bacteria but the cool mist sure does help. He needs all the rest he can get - you too Dads!
I would say keeping him hydrated is the most important thing. Flush that bug OUT! Please keep us posted on how he is doing. It is such a worry when a little one is sick :(
When I say "green" that's only if it's been in there a while, and it's usually clear or has a light wintergreen hue to it.. not dark or really thick. Unless of course he slept in it and it's crusted onto his forehead.
I haven't tried the bulb on myself yet. Maybe i'll try it on Papi tonight when he's asleep. We only use it when his nose is really clogged, before a bottle or bedtime so that he can get a few minutes of clear breathing before it fills up again. Thanks for the warning!
The humidifier has a clean filter and a capful of anti-bacterial stuff in the water. It's good to go.
He seems to be doing better today, he laughed at me when I sneezed. I think he's planning a sweet revenge with the "bulb" now that he's given me his cold.
