So here I am on Father’s Day, too tired to really blog about anything inspirational. I know its Dad’s Day, and I am supposed to be having a blast, celebrating fatherhood, but really I am just plain old tired. Tired and Uninspired. Oliver was up a few times during the night, but he slept in this morning. When I was getting his bottle ready I burned my finger---ouch. That was the start of my Happy Father’s Day.
Chris made me breakfast, and we opened our gifts for each other. Home electronics was the theme of the day. Later we met Walter and the Brothers’ DeAlmeida for brunch at Barney’s. Afterwards we strolled the streets of Beverly Hills and looked at the classic cars at the car show. It’s a beautiful day here in LA, but I am kind of seeing it through a sleepy haze. Oliver has been up all day, he caught a quick nap in his pram, but it was not enough. Now he’s just screaming upstairs with his Papi. WHAAAA!!! X 10.
Why isn’t Father’s Day more like Mother’s Day? Where are the spa treatments, massages, mani & pedi’s? I would kill just to go see a movie. No I have not seen a movie in a theatre since we saw Pooh’s Hephalump thing with Beth and the kids in San Fran. Yes, that was my last movie. Enough said. OK all you babysitters, where are you now?!! Chris and I agreed that we would find time one day this week to hit a movie during the day when Super Nanny is around. Feel free to post any suggestions on this site. Maybe we’ll make it a double feature and sneak into a couple.
Seriously, Father’s need to get together and reclaim this day for themselves. Maybe one of us needs to Usurp Mother’s Day and the other take Father’s Day? That way we can each have our own spa days…. BTW, Oliver is still screaming upstairs still as I type this.. . 10 minutes now.
I just poured myself a nice cup of Chamomile Tea, but something tells me Chris may be giving me the screaming baby soon. Ah, at least I got to smell it while it was hot. I’ll continue my rant in a few moments after I go upstairs and relieve him. After all it is Father’s Day, no?
Chris won’t hand him over. It’s so hard to listen to him scream. I have to either take Oliver in my arms and sooth him or barricade myself behind closed doors and try not to listen. I’ll have to settle for the former as Chris is insisting upon taking this one. Funny how we complain about the screaming baby, yet neither of us would trade it for the world. It really is different when it’s your kid screaming. I won't tolerate it in other's but for mine, sure. I am back now and where was I? Oh yeah, I was writing about Father’s Day. I can't think of a single thing I'd rather be doing right now. Ok, maybe the Brangelina movie... no, not even that.
After our brunch and tour de Beverly Hills’ classic cars, we left Walter and Dilson at the Nike store and drove home to meet Uncle Chris at the house. UC stopped by for a brief appearance and he was waiting for us when we pulled up. It’s amazing how much time passes that we don’t see people. You can measure it in their expressions as they see how much Oliver has grown. I’ll be sure to add some of the pics to the Photoblog in the next coming days. We fired off a couple on Papi’s flashy new digital camera.
Oliver loved seeing Uncle Chris. He lit up when he saw UC making googlie eyes. UC (That’s an unfortunate but funny abbreviation for Uncle Chris, no?) UC didn’t have much time, but he managed to tire us all out—it was very entertaining really. I apologize for all those nasty things I wrote about UC earlier in the blog. When we watch him play with Oli we light up just as much as The Kid does. UC managed to escape to a perfectly timed meeting just as Oliver began to meltdown.
I wish I could time those meltdowns better. They can be really useful when you want to get off the phone with relatives, and associates or avoid someone you know in a restaurant. It sounds as if Papi was successful in getting the Kid to sleep for his nap. The pillow over the face thing is so barbaric but it really works. Ok, I think I may take this moment to find some sleep for myself.
Good Night & Happy Father’s Day to all you Dads, and "Soon To Be confirmed, but We are Not Announcing it Publicly Yet Dads".
